2600 Sambuddthwa Jayanthi Bauddhaloka Wesak

All Ceylon Buddhist Congress (ACBC) made elaborate arrangements to celebrate the forthcoming Sambuddhathwa Jayanthi Bauddhaloka Wesak religious festival for the 10th consecutive year, from 17th to 21st May 2011 along Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 7.

The Wesak festival this year will be a special feature to the whole Buddhist community as this year we are celebrating the 2600th Anniversary of the Sambuddhathwa Jayanthi on a grand scale.

The first day of Wesak will be fully devoted with a “Sil” Campaign at the All Ceylon Buddhist Congress Headquarters giving priority to the observation of precepts. Among the special programs initiated, the following features will adorn the overall value of the festival thus highlighting the significance of the Wesak.

  • Exposition of the Relics of the Buddha to the general public
  • Colourful Wesak Pandol
  • Wesak Lantern Competition
  • Bakthi Gee Recital
  • Display of Art Drawings and Paintings competition based on religious themes
  • Miniature  Mechanize Sal Grove Competition

The Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation and Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corportation will provide the Media sponsorship for “Sambuddhathwa Jayanthi  Bauddhaloka Wesak” this year.

We have successfully conducted “Bauddhaloka Wesak” celebrations during the last Nine years with the support of your cooperation. “Bauddhaloka Wesak” celebration in Sri Lanka has become the most meaningful and colorful event recorded in Sri Lanka with the participation of large gathering of over One and half Million.

World Fellowship of Buddhist

25th General Conference and 60th Anniversary

 

The idea of establishing the World Fellowship of Buddhist was initiated on 25th of May. 1950 at the premise of Temple of the sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy by late Prof. Gunapala Malalasekara who then was the President of The All Ceylon Buddhist Congress for the welfare of all World Buddhist and longeyity of Buddhism throughout the World. At inaugural ceremony 30 regional centers representing 27 Countries in Asia, Europe and North America participated Over a preiod of 60 years the membership has grown up to 164 regional centers respresenting 41 countries thus showing the progress achieved by the World Fellowship of Buddhists. As per a decision taken by the Executive Committee of the World Fellowship of Budhists at Bangkok, Thailand and also taking into consideration the peaceful environment and stability prevailing in Sir Lanka the honour to host the 60th Anniversary Celebrations and as hosting the 25th General Conference in Sri lanka was awared to the All Ceylon Buddhist Congress.

Accordingly, Preliminary arrangements were made by the All Ceylon Buddhist Congress to conduct the 60th Anniversary and 25th General Conference of World Fellowship of Buddhists on a grand scale at Cinnamon Grand Hotel and at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium From 14th to 17th November 2010

TRAINING SESSION FOR TAMIL LANGUAGE CONDUCTED BY THE ALL CELON BUDDHIST CONGRESS

 
 

National Education Board of the All Ceylon Buddhist Congress, at Baudhdhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 7 has launched a Tamil Language training programme for the Buddhist Monks as per instructions given by the  Hon. President Mr. Jagath Sumathipala, at the Ariyapala Hall of the ACBC premises.

The training course will be conducted every Thursday and Friday from 9.30 am to 11.00 a.m for a period of six months.  At the end of the training a Certificate will be awarded to the participants.

At the commencement of the training  Programme, Ven  Nagoda Amarawanse Thero makes aware the importance of this programme for Bhikkus who attended the Meeting.  Also in the picture are Ven. Uyangalle Gnanaratana Thero, President of the ACBC Mr. Jagath Sumathipala, Deputy President Dr. Praneeth Abeyasundara and Dr (Mrs) Rani Fernando,  the President of the National  Education Board

   The Annual General Meeting of the All Ceylon Buddhist Congress Granvil Wickramaratna Child Development Ceneter was held recently at Biyagama. The Function started with lighting the Oil Lamp by the Hon. President of ACBC Mr. Jagath Sumathipala, Mr. Sarath Kuragama Hon. Chairman ACBC Child Care Council, Mrs. Leela Wickramaratna Chair Person and Mr. E.K. Gamage, a council Member of the Child Development Center also present at this occation. The Dance performed by the Childeren of the Center

 

 

Buddhist Flag Week 2010
BUDDHIST FLAG WEEK was held on 22nd TO 28th APRIL 2010.

The Buddhist Flag was affirmed and ceremonially hoisted for the first time on 28th of April 1885 on a Wesak Full Moon Day, by Ven. Migettuwatte Gunananda Nayake Thera at Deepaduththaramaya Temple in Kotahena, Colombo, Sri Lanka.
This flag was introduced to Myanmar and Japan in 1889 by Anagarika Dharmapala and Colonel Henry Steele Olcott from Sri Lanka.
Late Dr. G. P. Malalasekara adopted a resolution and passed at the inaugural sessions of World Federation of Buddhists held in Kandy on 20th May 1950 conveying this Buddhist Flag to be accepted as the Official Buddhist Flag by all the Buddhists in the World during its sessions of the WFB.

The ACBC Ceremonially conducted the Buddhist Flag Week during this year and these are the special sigenificances.
